This handsome walnut and curly maple keepsake was a special build for someone close to me. The top was a crazy idea I had one evening imagining water running over river stones in a small stream. My goal was to capture that look on the top.
Details:
Solid walnut construction with curly maple accents
Carved curly maple "Stones" for the top representing a river bed
Walnut miter splines which not only reinforces the corner, but gives a subtle extra touch
Mortised quadrant hinges
Real leather lining the bottom
Finish was three soaks of danish oil and multiple applications of Renaissance wax
